Use a twice daily treatment of cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. You’ll want to look for cleansers that have ingredients which dissolve excess sebum. Cleansers that contain sulfur, salicylic acid, or tea tree oil are good options. Glyoclic acid is another good ingredient to look for. It helps to improve the skin’s overall tone and texture. After you have cleansed, use a mild toner that is alcohol-free to remove impurities your cleanser may have missed. Lastly, apply a light, oil-free moisturizer.
Use an astringent every other day. An astringent can help to tighten the pores and further remove oil. However, astringents also contain high levels of alcohol, many people find them to be overly harsh. To avoid over-drying your skin, these should be used at most only every other day. Never use them after you’ve exfoliated your face.
Exfoliate once a week. Something that people with oily skin types commonly suffer from is clogged pores. Exfoliating can help with this. Be sure to be gentle when applying the scrub to your face so as not to irritate the skin.
Apply a facial mask once a week. Facial masks offer your face a deep-cleansing that can reduce shine for days. Clay masks are good for soaking up excess oil, and masks containing honey or shea butter will be more soothing on the skin and prevent it from drying out. If you find the masks are still drying out your face, try applying only to areas that are most prone to oiliness.
